How to Embrace Montgomery County’s New Logo
Montgomery County has officially launched a new logo and unveiled the first update to its county seal in more than 25 years. County officials say the refreshed visual identity better reflects the community’s values, diversity, and vision for the future while strengthening the County’s public image across the region and beyond.
New Branding Initiative Announced
Iris Creative, a Fort Washington-based agency, developed the rebranding effort. Iris Creative was awarded the contract on June 27, 2024, for a total cost of $84,950. County officials noted that proposals were submitted by firms from across the country before Iris Creative was selected.
Research-Driven Design Process
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
County officials explained that the rebranding process included extensive research. This research involved stakeholder sessions, interviews with residents, and a review of county brands nationwide. Through this process, several shared values emerged that transcend geography and demographic differences within the County.
Key Values Identified by Residents
The County highlighted several core values that residents consistently expressed during the research phase:
Accessibility
Residents value Montgomery County’s central location and convenient access to resources, shopping, dining, and public transit.
Transportation
Strong accessibility created a need for reliable transportation solutions, reinforcing interest in thoughtful growth, transit-oriented development, and well-funded transit systems.
Community-Mindedness
Inclusivity and local engagement were identified as essential elements of community life throughout the County.

Design Elements of the New Logo
Visual Representation of the County
The new logo features elements that represent Montgomery County’s urban, suburban, and rural communities. At the center of the design is the historic courthouse, surrounded by natural landscapes, tall buildings, homes, trees, open fields, a river, and a winding path.
Official Color Palette
The logo’s official colors include cobalt, frost, and marigold. County officials chose these colors to reflect authority, dependability, trust, and stability, qualities they want residents to associate with a government entity.
